How the plan is worked out
- New accounts a month = the target ÷ the first-year revenue of a new account. Sign the same number every month, and by month 12 you have one group of accounts in each month of its first year. Together they bring in, every month, what one group brings in over its whole first year.
- Leads = new accounts ÷ the share of leads that become new accounts. Marketing = leads × cost per lead.
- Reps needed = new accounts ÷ what a rep signs a month at full speed. Hires round up, and nobody on staff is let go.
- R2M₁₂ is the revenue return at month 12: the first-year net revenue of a month’s new accounts for every $1 invested in them, with that month’s marketing and reps and the accounts’ first-year variable costs counted as invested. At 1 or more, the accounts paid back within their first year. The numbers, defined has the three ways to set what counts as invested.
- Payback = marketing and reps ÷ the monthly contribution of the month’s accounts, their first-year net revenue less variable costs, spread evenly over twelve months. Contribution, first year = their net revenue less variable costs, marketing and reps.
- What it leaves out: new hires start at full speed, there’s one funnel and one cost per lead, and every new account counts at the average.
